Boxer Men Win At Wire; Women Cruise To Win Over Coyotes

FOREST GROVE – They came in different fashion, but the Pacific men's and women's swimming teams both picked up home victories on Saturday against the College of Idaho, as the men edged the Coyotes 112-105 and the women cruised to a 135-82 win inside of the Forest Grove Aquatic Center.
 
The Boxers will complete their home schedule on Jan. 23, as Pacific plays host to Willamette at 6 p.m.
 
MEN: Pacific 112, College of Idaho 105
Trailing 101-99 entering the final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Pacific men swam one of the fastest times in school history to top the Coyotes and clinch a 112-105 victory in its home pool.
 
The Boxers picked up first place points for the first time in the day's second event when Raymond Miller (Fr., Portland, Ore.) won the 200-yard freestyle by nearly three seconds. Miller's time of 1:45.76 is among the five fastest times in school history.
 
After being shutout of the top-two in the 100-yard backstroke, Spencer Chandler (Sr., Weiser, Idaho) notched a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
 
The 200-yard butterfly saw the Boxers sweep the top-three positions as Miller, Charles Morse (So., Forest Grove, Ore.) and Michael Sakai (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) finished first, second and third, respectively. As he did in the 200-yard freestyle, Miller posted one of the five fastest times in school history in the butterfly with a finish of 1:59.68.
 
Jack Lloyd (Jr., Portland, Ore.) picked up a first place finish for the Boxers as he touched the wall in 21.49 seconds for one of the top 50-yard freestyle times in Pacific swimming history. Lloyd picked up back-to-back victories for the Boxers with a win in the 100-yard freestyle.
 
The Boxers saw points slip away in the 200-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly, as well as in the 200-yard individual medley. Morse won the 200-yard individual medley, but the Coyotes picked up second and third to pad their lead at 101-99.
 
The College of Idaho, which swam its fastest time of the season in the 200-yard freestyle relay, jumped out to an early lead in the first three legs of the race. The Coyotes sat at a time of 1:07.95 when Thomas Sheridan took to the water in the final leg, while Lloyd didn't leave the starting block until 1:08.27. Lloyd used the first length to catch Sheridan, before passing the Coyotes anchor to earn the Boxers a win with a time of 1:29.05.
 
WOMEN: Pacific 135, College of Idaho 82
Rachel Webster (So. Normandy, Park, Wash.) swam one of the fastest times in school history in the 200-yard butterfly as she helped lead the Pacific women to a 135-82 victory over the visiting Coyotes.
 
The Boxers earned top points early with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, before Amanda Clark (Sr., Olympia, Wash.) won by nearly 10 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.66.
 
Kayla Knock (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the second Pacific woman to win an individual race as she finished the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:13.32.
 
Webster's strong performance came in the 200-yard butterfly, which saw the Boxers pick-up 16-team points across three lanes. Nine points came from Webster, who swam one of the three fastest times in Pacific history in the event, with her time of 2:16.32.
 
Katie Porter (Sr., McMinnville, Ore.) earned her first of back-to-back victories in the 50-yard freestyle with a 25.30, before picking up a first place finish of 55.53 in the 100-yard freestyle.
 
Clark notched her second victory of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:39.99, shortly before Porter and Stacie Struble (Sr., Albany, Ore.) finished one-two, respectively, in the 100-yard butterfly. Porter posted a time of 1:00.42, while Struble finished second at 1:02.97.
