TACOMA, Wash. — For the second time in as many nights, the Pacific volleyball team rolled to a straight sets win, taking down Puget Sound on the road in a Northwest Conference match.
The 25-11, 25-21, 25-22 victory was also Pacific's fifth in a row, as they continue to climb the conference ladder. In beating the Loggers, they moved into a tie with the host school in the league standings. Both teams are now 7-9 overall and 4-4 in NWC action.
Pacific beat George Fox on Friday night in three games as well.
Familiar as the win was, so was the method in which the Boxers won. Balance ruled on the offensive side as
Marie Rewick,
Tiare Kaopua and
Hannah Herbert all had nine kills for the visitors, and
Ciara Smith was one put away behind that trio with eight.
The same scenario could be said for the defense.
Lia Zablan led the way with 14 digs, but right behind her was Rewick with 13 and
Karissa Komo with 11.
The Boxers controlled the entire match and never trailed past the first few points of each game. They jumped out to a 12-3 lead in set one and never looked back. In set two, they broke open a 10-9 score with a 10-2 run and never trailed. In the third set, after leading 11-10 they pulled away to lead by as many as six points before settling for the three point win.
The Boxers hit .263 for the night in capturing the important road match. It was also Pacific's first win over the Loggers in Tacoma since 2007, and that match went five sets. The Boxers also won in UPS's house in 2003, again in a five set battle.
"I like how we are playing now, and am especially pleased that we were able to continue this kind of play away from home," said Boxer head coach
Kip Yoshimura. "The mark of a good and improving team is to continue to play well at a consistent level and that is our goal."
