FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Pacific used a balanced attack and avoided any drama on its way to a straight sets non-conference volleyball win over Multnomah on Wednesday night at the Stoller Center.
The Boxers, who won a pair of draining five set matches over the weekend, picked up its third consecutive victory with a 25-17, 25-14, 25-8 sweep of the Lions. Pacific improved to 5-9 on the year, while the Lions dropped to 2-11.
The hosts used a run in the middle of set number one to strike first. Up 12-10, the Boxers scored eight consecutive points with
Karissa Komo serving. Komo dropped in three aces during that run and had nine for the night. That total ties the school record shared by Kelsy Takashima (2011) and Chrissi Beck (2003), both also established in three set matches.
In the second set, Multnomah moved out to a 7-4 lead before the Boxers went on a 13-4 run to right the ship for the 25-14 win.
Komo began serving the third set and zipped in three more aces as the hosts ran out to a 5-0 lead. The Lions would get no closer than six points as Pacific pulled away, winning 25-8.
Hannah Herbert led a balanced Pacific attack with 11 kills, followed by
Ciara Smith's 10 put aways. The Boxers hit a sizzling .344 on the night.
Jamie Steach had 25 assists, while
Lia Zablan had 14 digs and
Marie Rewick added 12.
Patty Batoon led the Lions with 10 kills.
Pacific will return to Northwest Conference play this Friday night, hosting George Fox. Start time will be 7 pm at the Stoller Center.
