EUGENE, Ore. —
Sarah Curl had 23 points and
Karli McHone hit the game clinching free throws with eight seconds left to lead the Pacific women's basketball team to a 61-58 non-conference win over Northwest Christian College on Friday night in Eugene at the Morris Event Center.
The Boxers moved to 2-0 under first-year coach
Jennifer Mountain, while the Beacons dropped to 3-2.
Curl led all scorers despite playing only 28 minutes because of foul trouble. She also had five rebounds and four steals in the game that featured potential game-stealing runs by both teams.
It was the host Deacons that had the first run, breaking away from a 12-11 first quarter deficit by outscoring the Boxers 18-8 in the second period to take a 29-20 halftime lead. But the Boxers roared back in the third quarter with 20 points in the 10-minute span to knot the game at 40-40 heading into the final stanza.
The final quarter was in doubt until McHone nailed two free throws with 7.8 seconds on the clock. Northwest Christian's final three-point attempt banged off the backboard and the victory was Pacific's to keep.
McHone hit all six of her free throw attempts on the night and finished with 14 points.
Kyla Siri added 14 to give the Boxers three players in double figures.
Hanna Mack led the Beacons with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Both squads will see Carroll College (Mont.) as their next opponent, with NCU hosting the Fighting Saints on Saturday afternoon and Pacific doing the same on Sunday at the Stoller Center at 2 pm.
