FOREST GROVE – Pacific swimmers made it a sweep of the Boxer Club Student-Athlete of the Month awards as Katie Porter (Sr., McMinnville, Ore.) and Raymond Miller (Fr., Portland, Ore.) were selected for the January honors by the Boxer Club Board of Directors.
Porter finished up her final regular season in typical dominant fashion. She was the top scorer for the Boxers in their four dual meets in the month, scoring 81 individual points and 118 total points, which included the relays, and won all nine individual events that she raced in.
Porter went on to a big meet at the NWC Swimming Championships last weekend, winning the 50-yard freestyle for the fourth consecutive year, the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. She leaves the Pacific swim program as the school record holder in those three events along with having swum a leg on all five record-setting relays.
This is the second time Porter has been voted as the female Boxer Club Student-Athlete of the Month. She was also selected for the award in November.
Miller capped his first season by earning 88 points in individual events and a total of 114 points with his work in the relays. He won nine individual races in the team's four dual meets, capped by swimming the lead leg for the men's 200-yard freestyle relay team that set the school record of 1:29.05 against the College of Idaho on Jan. 10.
Miller also had a good showing in his first NWC Championships, earning First Team All-NWC honors with his third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and was a Second Team All-NWC selection with his sixth place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly. Miller closes his season with Pacific individual records in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events and legs on the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay events.
