Lomartire, Vidovic Winners As Boxers Fall To Pirates

SPOKANE, Wash. – Kaitlyn Lomartire (So., Portland, Ore.) and Jelena Vidovic (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.) picked up victories at the top of the singles ladder Saturday as the Boxers opened Northwest Conference women's tennis play with a 7-2 loss to Whitworth at the Scotford Tennis Center.
 
After the Boxers (1-1, 0-1 NWC) opened the day by dropping all three doubles flights, Vidovic put Pacific in the win column early in the singles as she scored a 6-1, 6-2 decision in the No. 2 flight over Saryn Mooney.  Lomartire, meanwhile, prevailed in one of two three-set victories with a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 win over Taylor Pena in the No. 1 flight.
 
Mai Kobayashi (Fr., Waikoloa, Hawaii) went up in the first set of the other three-set battle over Jennifer Adams at No. 3, but Adams rebounded to take the next two sets for the 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win.  At No. 3, Bella Hoyos took a 6-0, 6-0 victory from Sidney Smith (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) while Morgan McDivitt collected a 6-1, 6-0 win from Carlee Rhodaback (Jr., Albany, Ore.) at No. 5 while Caylee Lamm was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Kanani Kea (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) at No. 6.
 
Whitworth (1-2, 1-1 NWC) opened the afternoon with a sweep of the doubles.  Adams and Pena were 8-3 winners over Lomartire and Vidovic in the No. 1 flight.  Hayos and McDivitt collected an 8-3 win over Smith and Kobayashi at No. 2 while Mooney and Lamm were 8-1 winners over Rhodaback and Kea at No. 3.
 
Pacific concludes their eastern Washington road swing on Sunday at Whitman.  The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
