Box ScoreFOREST GROVE – The top of the singles ladder came through once again Sunday as Pacific completed a weekend sweep of the Tacoma schools with a 6-3 victory over Pacific Lutheran in Northwest Conference women's tennis action at the Holce Tennis Courts.
Â
After taking a pair of easy wins in the doubles to build a 2-1 advantage, the Boxers turned to Kaitlin Lomartire (So., Portland, Ore.) and
Jelena Vidovic (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.) for wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles flights before
Sidney Smith (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) earned her first collegiate win at No. 3 to help secure Pacific their second win of the weekend.
Â
"It was another solid win today," said Pacific Head Coach
Brian Jackson. "We battled through some fatigue today, but we had enough to secure the win. Doubles proved to be incredibly important once again as our top two teams put together impressive wins to give us the lead going into singles."
Â
Lomartire teamed with
Mai Kobayashi (Fr., Waikaloa, Hawaii) for their third win as a tandem, scoring an 8-1 win over Caroline Dreher and Ingrid Ericksen in the No. 1 doubles flight. Vidovic and Smith improved to 2-1 on the season with an 8-3 win over Allison McClure and Megan Beyers at No. 2. Emily Boyer and Emily Beemsterboer prevented the Pacific sweep, taking an 8-5 win in the No. 3 match over
Carlee Rhodaback (Jr., Albany, Ore.) and
Kanani Kea (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii).
Â
In singles, Lomartire cruised to her fourth win of the season, easily handling Dreher at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2. Vidovic improved to an undefeated 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over McClure at No. 2. Smith, meanwhile, gave Pacific the team win with her first collegiate singles win, a 6-2, 6-4 win over Beyers at No. 3. Kea provided the Boxers' remaining win at No. 6, dispatching Stephanie Baker 6-0, 6-1.
Â
Boyer and Beemsterboer provided for the Lutes' singles victories. Boyer scored a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kobayashi at No. 4 while Beemsterboer took a 6-0, 6-0 win from Rhodaback at No. 5.
Â
With the win, Pacific improved to 3-2, 2-2 NWC. Pacific Lutheran dropped to 0-4, 0-4 NWC.
Â
Pacific will spend the remainder of March competing on the road. They return to Northwest Conference play next weekend, playing at Lewis & Clark on Saturday and at Linfield on Sunday.
