PORTLAND, Ore. – A trio of two-hit performances was not enough to overcome a five-run third inning by Concordia (Ore.) Tuesday night as Pacific fell to the Cavaliers 6-4 in baseball action at Porter Park.

Nathan Suyematsu (Jr., Tualatin, Ore.) led the way for the Boxers by going 2 for 3 with a double, a run and two RBIs, while Austin Gallagher (Sr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Cole Kanazawa (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii) also had two hits.  The efforts could not combat a third inning where Concordia scored five runs on five hits and capitalized on a pair of Boxers' errors.

The Boxers (2-12) came back to score single runs in the fourth and fifth and two in the seventh, but could not mound any offense in the final two innings.

The fateful inning began for Concordia (8-12) when Hunter Weiss led off with an infield single, stole second and scored when Cole Crosby reached on a mishandled sacrifice bunt.  Konner Reddick singled and Nate Esposito followed with a single through the right side that scored Crosby.  The two runners advanced 90 feet and Blake Evetts walked to load the bases.  Cole Buruse forced in the second run when he was hit by a pitch.  Adam Taylor closed the frame a single to right field that scored Evetts and Esposito.

Suyematsu gave the Boxers their first run in the top of the fourth when he tripled down the right field line and scored on Gallagher's double to center field.  The Cavaliers took the run back in the home half off the frame, but the Boxers came back within 6-2 in the top of the fifth when Danny Yazzolino (So., Portland, Ore.) walked and scored on a Matt Hopp (Sr., Portland, Ore.) ground out.

Pacific made a run a tying the game in the top of the seventh.  Ben Duerr (Jr., Lebanon, Ore.) reached on a fielder's choice, Hopp singled and both scored when Suyematsu doubled down the left field line.  Walker Olis (Jr., Burlington, Wash.) singled to put two runners on, but reliever Ryan Caylor struck out the next two batters to end the threat.

Austin Florez (Fr., South Jordan, Utah) took the loss for the Boxers in his first collegiate decision, allowing five runs, one earned, on four hits with two walks and a strikeout in 2.1 innings of work.  Max Lind earned the win for Concordia in relief, allowing one run on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts in two innings.  Jordan Spencer threw the final 2.2 innings to earn his second save.

Pacific returns to Northwest Conference action this weekend, traveling to Lewis & Clark for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
