SPOKANE, Wash. –
Ashley Mitchell and
Kylee Yamamoto both drove in a run as the Pacific softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Whitworth on Saturday, as the Pirates took game one 4-2 and game two 5-0 from the Boxers.

Mitchell (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) and
Kylee Oshiro (Sr., Aiea, Hawaii) each recorded a pair of hits in the opener, while
Jessica Hotaling (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) struck out three Pirates in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Boxers and Pirates are scheduled to meet again tomorrow with a doubleheader set to begin at noon.

Game One: Whitworth 4, Pacific 2Mitchell doubled in a run for Pacific, while Yamamoto (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii)) singled Mitchell in as the Boxers dropped the opener 4-2 at Diana Marks Field.

Whitworth allowed Pacific to load the bases in the top of the second, but after recording the final out of the inning started out the bottom of the frame with a double from Peyton McMahon.

The Pirates plated three in the bottom of the second on a three-run homer by Kayla Batastini. Whitworth later added a fourth run in the bottom of the sixth before Pacific headed to the plate in the top of the seventh.

Marissa Reichard (Jr., Forest Grove, Ore.) earned a one-out walk in the seventh and advanced to second on a sacrifice from
Haley Kodama (Fr., Manana, Hawaii). A two-out double to right center by Mitchell plated Reichard, while Mitchell would score on a single to center by Yamamoto. Despite a single from Oshiro, which put runners on first and second, the Boxers were unable to complete the comeback in the opening game.

Game Two: Whitworth 5, Pacific 0Hotaling struck out three in five innings as the Pirates shutout Pacific in a 5-0 game two victory.

Whitworth struck for two runs in the bottom of the first, before adding a third in the second inning.
Kaitlyn Shikada (Sr., Honolulu, Hawaii) notched Pacific's second hit of the game in the top of the fifth, but was left stranded to end the frame.

Following a Pacific pitching change, the Pirates notched two more runs in the bottom of the sixth before wrapping up a 5-0 win with a 1-2-3 top of the seventh on defense.
