Boxers Cruise to 13-4 Victory Over Battling Bishops

FOREST GROVE – Attacking duo April Lanz and Amy Mayhugh scored four goals each, while Mayhugh tallied the eventual game-winner, as the Boxers secured a 13-4 victory at Hanson Stadium over the visiting Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops.

The Battling Bishops struck first, when nearly five minutes into the game Patricia Ryan tallied on a free position shot.

Lanz (So., Oregon City, Ore.) controlled the ensuing draw and assisted on a Kara Smouse (Jr., Portland, Ore.) to give Pacific its first goal of the afternoon and tie the game at 1-1 with 24:57 on the game clock.

A little over a minute after Pacific's opening goal, a ground ball pickup by Brittney Bardin (So., Albany, Ore.) led to a Pacific clearance and Lanz's first goal of the game to put the Boxers ahead 2-1.

After taking a 2-1 lead with 23:31 on the clock, Pacific never trailed again in the game. The lead extended to 3-1 after roughly five scoreless minutes, when Lanz scored on an assist from Meg Chapman (So., Woodinville, Wash.).

The Battling Bishops controlled the following draw, before the two sides exchanged turnovers and clearances until the 15:45 mark. After a successful Ohio Wesleyan clearance, Mayhugh forced a turnover by Meghan Doherty and corralled the ground ball. After clearing the ball for the Boxers, Mayhugh drew a free position chance and connected for her first goal of the day.

Ohio Wesleyan answered back with a Haley Savoie goal at 12:39 in the first, but Mayhugh collected a Paisley Hiefield (So., Portland, Ore.) assist and score the eventual game-winner as she gave Pacific a 5-2 lead with 9:30 left in the opening half.

The Boxers' sixth goal came quickly after the fifth when Lanz controlled the draw at 9:23 and scored her 15th goal of the season at the nine-minute mark.

Ohio Wesleyan netted its third goal with 6:36 left in the first half, when Caroline Bonee scored on an assist Patricia Ryan.

Mayhugh struck twice more in the opening half and sent Pacific to the halftime break with an 8-3 lead.

Ohio Wesleyan struck first in the second period when Taylor Weis scored on a free position chance, before the two teams held each other scoreless for a six-minute period.

Mahea Wong (Jr., Lake Stevens, Wash.) broke the drought with a goal at 22:12, before Chapman put Pacific up 10-4 with 19:33 on the clock.

A Battling Bishops yellow card put Pacific up a player, which led to a man-up goal from Hiefield off an assist from Lanz.

Lanz and Chapman wrapped up the scoring for the Boxers as time expired on a 13-4 home victory.

Mayhugh and Lanz led Pacific with four goals each, while Lanz dished out two assists and Lanz passed out one. Chapman netted a pair of goals and an assist, while Wong, Smouse and Hiefield all finished with one goal on the day.
