REDLANDS, Calif. – Josh Bernstein (So., Novato, Calif.) picked up his first win of the southern California road trip Tuesday as Pacific dropped their second match of the trip to a nationally ranked opponent in an 8-1 defeat by No. 18 Redlands in men's tennis action at the Verdieck Courts.

Bernstein improved to 4-4 on the season in singles.  He won a close first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), and led the second set 2-1 over Gram Leahy in the No. 5 match before Leahy retired.

"Today was a rough one for us," said Pacific Head Coach Brian Jackson.  "Although we fought hard, we just didn't execute well enough against a very good Redlands squad.  No. 1 and No. 3 doubles were tighter than the score indicated as both winners were down early.  We need doubles to have a shot.  I am happy for Josh and his well-deserved win on the trip."

Leahy and Burchett opened the day with an 8-2 win over Giancarlo Battaglia (Sr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Jason Voss (Sr., Jamul, Calif.) in the No. 2 doubles.  Patrick Lipscomb and Nick Cummins came back from being down in the No. 1 match to beat Brennan Faith (So., Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Grayson Frazier (Sr., La Canada, Calif.) 8-5.  Joey Dulle and Jake Ly also came back from a deficit to complete the doubles sweep, beating Clark Wininger (So., San Francisco, Calif.) and Oscar Wight (Fr., Adelaide, Australia) 8-4 in the No. 3 match.

The top and bottom of the singles ladder won it for Redlands, with Lipscomb knocking off Battaglia 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 flight and Taylor Hunt beating Reuben Mulhern (So., Boise, Idaho) 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 match.  Cummins scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Faith at No. 2 while Parker Wilson collected a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Frazier at No. 3.  In the No. 4 match, Joey Dulle and Clark Wininger battled through three tiebreakers before Dulle finally came out with the victory, 6-7 (1-7), 7-6 (7-4), 10-1.

With the win, Redlands improved to 10-5 overall.  Pacific dropped to 10-3.  The Boxers close out their southern California trip on Thursday as they face UC Santa Cruz in a neutral site match at Whittier College.
