Pair of Shutouts Earn Pacific Sweep of Beacons

EUGENE – The Boxers completed a four-game season sweep of Northwest Christian with a pair of shutout victories over the Beacons on Wednesday at James Park.
 
The Boxers topped the Beacons 3-0 in the opener, before taking game two by a score of 5-0.
 
Marissa Reichard (Jr., Forest Grove, Ore.) dazzled in the circle as she picked up a win in game one, while Allie Sims (So., Puyallup, Wash.) earned a win in the second game. At the plate, Kylee Oshiro (Sr., Aiea, Hawaii) finished the day with a pair of two-hit games.
 
Game One: Pacific 3, Northwest Christian 0
Reichard carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh, before finishing Pacific's 3-0 victory over the Beacons with a two-hitter in the circle.
 
Pacific got all of the scoring out of the way in the opening frame when Ashley Mitchell (Jr., Redmond, Wash.) drew a two-out walk and advanced to third on a single to left by Oshiro. Kylee Yamamoto (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) followed Oshiro's single with one of her own as Yamamoto's single to left plated Mitchell and placed Oshiro on third.
 
With runners on the corners, Megan Winans (Jr., Hood River, Ore.) singled to left, before advancing to second on an error. Winans' single scored Oshiro and moved Yamamoto to third. The two-out rally for Pacific continued as Kaitlyn Shikada (Sr., Honolulu, Hawaii) legged out an infield single as Yamamoto scored.
 
With a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first, Reichard walked the first batter before retiring seven-straight batters before a hit batter gave the Beacons there second base runner in the third inning.
 
Reichard's strong outing featured three perfect innings before her no-hitter was erased by a pair of Northwest Christian hits in the bottom of the seventh. Reichard responded to he second hit of the game for the Beacons with a strike out of Parker Bonife for the final out of the game.
 
Reichard struck four Beacons out in the first game, while facing one over the minimum 21 batters. At the plate, Oshiro, Winans and Shikada all finished with two hits.
 
Game Two: Pacific 5, Northwest Christian 0
Jordan Schmerbauch (So., Mililani, Hawaii) and Margaret Bachmeier (So., Newberg, Ore.) both delivered 2-3 outings at the plate, while also driving in a run for Pacific as the Boxers took a 5-0 victory over the Beacons in the second game.
 
After Rachel Roberts (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) opened the game with a walk, Jessica Hotaling (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) followed with a single to center to move Roberts to second. The inning continued as Roberts raced to third on a fly out to center by Mitchell, which was soon followed by Hotaling stealing second base.
 
Oshiro grounded out with runners on second and third to plate Roberts, while Hotaling would score on a two-out single to center by Yamamoto.
 
The Boxers added a third run in the top of the third as Oshiro singled to center and proceeded to steal second. With one out and Oshiro on second, Bachmeier singled up the middle allowing Oshiro to score the third run of the game.
 
Hotaling and Sims combined to shutdown the Beacons as the Boxers carried a 3-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning.
 
The first half of the seventh opened with an Oshiro single to left. After Oshiro was replaced by pinch runner Ari Bali (Fr., Aiea, Hawaii), a fielder's choice erased the lead runner and allowed Caitlyn Ramiscal (Fr., Kapolei, Hawaii) to reach first safely. The Boxers added a second base runner when Bachmeier singled through the right side.
 
Pacific loaded the bases when Antonio (Jr., Kapolei, Hawaii) singled up the middle. With one out and the bases loaded, Haley Kodama (Fr., Manana, Hawaii) drove in the first run of the inning with a single to left. The final run of the day came soon after Kodama's single, when Schmerbauch singled through the left side to plate Bachmeier.
 
Sims and Hotaling both struck out two batters, as Sims tossed four innings after Hotaling threw the opening three. Hotaling, Five Boxers recorded two hits in the second game of the doubleheader.
