Box ScoreMcMINNVILLE, Ore. – Kaitlyn Lomarire (So., Portland, Ore.) won her fifth singles match of the season and her third in her last four matches Sunday, leading Pacific in an 8-1 loss to Linfield in Northwest Conference women's tennis action at the Linfield Tennis Courts.
Â
The sophomore improved to 5-2 on the season in singles. Playing for the first time in the No. 2 flight, Lomartire scored a solid 6-3, 6-4 win over Basia Kopecka. It was the only winner for the Boxers (3-4, 2-4 NWC) on an afternoon that also saw
Jelena Vidovic (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.) lose her first collegiate singles match.
Â
"The top of the lineup battled hard today, but we didn't have enough to compete with the Wildcats down the line," said Pacific Head Coach
Brian Jackson. "It was a really great win for Kaitlyn, who played through some pain to get the win over a very good player. We look forward to getting back to work this week to make sure we are ready for a good match against George Fox next weekend."
Â
Playing in her first match as the No. 1 singles player, Vidovic battled back from one set down to force a deciding set with Ella Riddle. Forced to a super tiebreaker due to time, Riddle quickly seized momentum and never looked back as she won 6-1, 4-6, 10-1.
Â
"Jelena had a great comeback, but ran into a buzz saw in that tiebreaker," Jackson said. "We would have loved to see her play a full set there as she had the momentum."
Â
The Wildcats (8-2, 4-0 NWC) rolled through the rest of the singles matches. Marisa Doveri was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over
Sidney Smith (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) at No. 3.Â
Mai Kobayashi (Fr., Waikoloa, Hawaii) was downed by Marisa Kume at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0. Courtney Hammagren scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over
Carlee Rhodaback (Jr., Albany, Ore.) at No. 5 while Kelly Watanabe was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Kenani Kea (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) at No. 6.
Â
Linfield opened the day with a sweep of the doubles. Riddle and Mackenzie Fraser took an 8-4 win from Lomartire and Vidovic at No. 1. Hammagren and Kopecka were 8-2 winners over Kobayashi and Smith at No. 2 while Watanabe and Kaila Nip collected an 8-0 win over Rhodaback and
Danielle Wicks (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.).

Pacific plays just one match next weekend, traveling to Newberg on Saturday to face George Fox.
