FOREST GROVE – Kanani Kea (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) closed her freshman season at Pacific as a winner as she won the lone singles match of the day in an 8-1 loss to No. 29 Lewis & Clark in Northwest Conference women's tennis action at the Holce Tennis Courts.

Kea improved to 7-9 on the season with her win in the No. 5 flight, scoring a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Adrienne Fox.  The Pioneers (16-3, 11-1 NWC), however, took the remaining matches, including a pair of close battles at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, to secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NWC Championships.

"It was a tough ending to a solid season of growth," said head coach Brian Jackson.  "We not only had to battle some tough weather conditions, but also a very tough Lewis & Clark team.  The ladies fought hard, but we were outmatched.  We gained some great experience for our young players this year. We look forward to another step next year."

With the loss, Pacific concluded the season with a 6-10 overall record and a 3-9 mark in NWC play.

In doubles, Summer Garrison and Claudia Lew opened the day by coming out on top of a well played match at No. 1 against Jelena Vidovic (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.) and Mai Kobayashi (Fr., Waikoloa, Hawaii), 8-5.  Gillian Lowe and Christian Eliazo beat Sidney Smith (Fr., Olympia, Wash.) and Kea at No. 2, 8-2.  Fox and Kathryn Johnson completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3 over Carlee Rhodaback (Jr., Albany, Ore.) and Danielle Wicks (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.).

In singles, Vidovic was handed just her second singles loss of the season, falling to Garrison in the No. 1 flight, 6-3, 7-5.  With the defeat, Vidovic finished her freshman season with an impressive 14-2 record in singles, including a 7-2 mark in the No. 1 flight.  Smith saw her freshman season end with a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Eliazo at No. 2.

Kobayashi took a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Claudia Lew at No. 3, while Rhodaback fell to Lowe at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0.  Kelly Flores (So., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) saw her season end with a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Johnson at No. 6.
