Roberts Impressive At Plate As Boxers Drop Pair

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Pacific softball fell in the opening game of the Northwest Conference tournament 6-2 to George Fox, before falling in extra innings to top-seed Whitworth 2-1 at Diana Marks Field on Friday.

Rachel Roberts (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) led the Boxers at the plate by going a combined 7-8 from the plate, while hitting a home run in game one and recording the 150th hit of her collegiate career during game two.

Marissa Reichard (Jr., Forest Grove, Ore.) struck out eight batters across the two games.

Game One: George Fox 6, Pacific 2
Roberts was 4-4 with a home run, while Jessica Hotaling (Jr., Oregon City, Ore.) also posted a perfect game at the plate with a 3-3 showing.

Roberts opened the day with a double to left before Hotaling singled and Kylee Yamamoto (Jr., Mililani, Hawaii) reached on an error to load the bases, Pacific was unable to capitalize as the Bruins recorded three-straight outs to escape the inning unscathed.

Neither offense was able to send a runner across the plate until the top of the third when Roberts led off the frame with a solo home run to right field for the Boxers' lone run of the frame.

Pacific added a second run in the fifth when Kiera Melton (Sr., Pleasanton, Calif.) led off with a single to center. Caitlyn Ramiscal (Fr., Kapolei, Hawaii) pinch ran for Melton and promptly headed to second on a single up the middle from Roberts.

Hotaling delivered a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up a base, which allowed Ramiscal to score on a wild pitch to give Pacific a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.

George Fox answered Pacific's lead with a two-run fifth inning before adding a four-run sixth to pull off a 6-2 victory over the Boxers.

Reichard struck out three Bruins hitters while earning a no-decision in five innings of work.

Game Two: Whitworth 2, Pacific 1 (8 innings)
Roberts and Nalani Antonio (Jr., Kapolei, Hawaii) both delivered multi-hit games, while Reichard struck out five in Pacific's elimination game loss to the host-Pirates.

As she did in the opening game, Roberts led Pacific off with a hit against Whitworth as she singled through the left side to lead off the game. Roberts leadoff single was the 150th hit of her Pacific career.

Following to Pacific fly outs, Roberts stole second and would then score on a double to left field by Kylee Oshiro (Sr., Aiea, Hawaii).

Whitworth evened the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first after Chelsey Hayes doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A single by Shannon Wessel plated Hayes to tie the game.

Reichard and Makayla Lefever entered into duel over the next six innings, as neither team was able to break the deadlock in the scheduled seven innings.

Pacific put one runner on in the top of the eight, but was unable to push Oshiro across for a run to pull ahead. The Pirates opened the bottom of the eight with two quick outs as Reichard induced a pop-up in foul territory and a ground out to lead off the inning.

Peyton McMahon, the third batter of the inning, managed to end the game for Whitworth as she hit an inside the park home run to center field to give Whitworth a walk-off victory.

Reichard struck out five Pirates in Pacific's second game of the day.
