Box Score

SALEM, Ore. – A trio of three-hit afternoons for Nathan Suyematsu (Jr., Tualatin, Ore.), Walker Olis (Jr., Burlington, Wash.) and Josh Keithly (So., Mission Viejo, Calif.) paced Pacific an 11-8 win over Willamette Friday in Northwest Conference baseball action at John Lewis Field.

Suyematsu led the way as he went 3 for 5 with two runs and four RBIs to lead an afternoon that saw the Boxers (10-15, 6-10 NWC) pound out 15 hits.  Keithly went 3 for 4 with two RBIs while Olis finished 3 for 5 with two runs, two RBIs and his fourth homer of the season.  They helped back up Kyle Treadway (Sr., Phoenix, Ore.) picked up his fourth win of the year in his third complete game.

Both teams scored runs in the first inning.  Ben Duerr (Jr., Lebanon, Ore.) sent the second pitch of the game down the right field line for a double, was sacrificed to third and scored on Suyematsu's infield single.  Troy Conway responded in kind for Willamette,(18-8, 10-7 NWC) singling on Pacific's first pitch of the game and scoring on a balk.

Pacific took the lead for good with a four-run third inning.  Duerr led off with a single up the middle, Matt Hopp (Sr., Portland, Ore.) walked and both runners scored on Suyematsu's single through the left side.  Two batters later, Donnie Bradley (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) singled and he and Suyematsu came home on Keithly's double to left field.

Olis got in on the scoring action in the fifth, knocking the first pitch of the inning down the left field line for a double and then scored on Keithly's single to left.  The Bearcats took two runs back in the bottom of the sixth when Hunter Gallant reached on an error and Tiras Koon followed with a two-run homer to center field.

The Boxers put together what would prove to be critical runs in the seventh and eighth.  Olis picked up his second run in the seventh with his fourth home run of the year, a smash to right center field.  Wyatt Moore (Fr., Riverside, Calif.) opened the Boxers' four-run with a single.  Ryan Sohn (Jr., Ventura, Calif.) reached on an error and Tanner Mansell (Jr., Tualatin, Ore.) had a bunt single to load the bases.

Suyematsu followed with a single up the middle that scored pinch runner Dante Filippini (Fr., Three Forks, Mont.).  Olis followed with a single to center field, scoring Sohn and Bradley hit into a fielder's choice, which allowed Mansell to score.  Suyematsu plated the last run thank to a wild pitch.

Willamette would not go quietly, scoring one in the eighth as Koon leadoff with a single and scored on Jordan Ramp's double down the left field line. In the ninth, Conway started a bottom of the ninth rally with his infield single.  Roland Himuro followed with a single and Gallant reached on an error to load the bases.  Koon put Willamette back in the game with his second home run of the game, a grand slam to center field.  The rally was short lived as the last two batters grounded out to end the game.

Treadway went the distance to improve to 4-4 on the season with his third complete game.  He allowed eight runs, six earned, on 12 hits with six strikeouts.  Connor Loar took the loss for Willamette, falling to 4-3 on the season.  He allowed six runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings of work.  Koon led the Bearcats offensively, going 4 for 5 with the two home runs, three runs scored and six RBIs.
