Strength At Top Of Lineup Prevails In Loss To Bruins

FOREST GROVE – Playing at home for the first time in over a month, Pacific received strong play from top players Jelena Vidovic (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.) and Kaitlyn Lomartire (So., Portland, Ore.) as the Boxers fell 6-3 to George Fox in Northwest Conference women's tennis action at the Holce Tennis Courts.
 
The duo opened the day by picking up third doubles victory of the year together, cruising in the No. 1 flight in an 8-3 victory over Sarah Tumeller and Chantelle Hadeed.  In singles, Vidovic picked up her 11th victory of the year with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tuemmler at No. 1 while Lomartire collected her 10th win of the season with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Hadeed at No. 2.
 
"It was a tough battle for us today," said Pacific assistant coach Karen Weels, "but everyone up and down the lineup fought hard and played well.  We are looking forward to a good match tomorrow against Whitworth."
 
The Bruins (8-7, 4-4 NWC) emerged with momentum from doubles, taking two of the three matches.  Andrea Motley and Ali Diehl scored an 8-2 win over Sidney Smith (Fr., Tumwater, Wash.) and Kanani Kea (Fr., Mililani, Hawaii) at No. 2 while Taylor Barnes and Catrina Kwong were 8-2 winners over Danielle Wicks (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) and Kelly Flores (So., Ewa Beach, Hawaii) at No. 3.
 
Barnes continued to win in singles, surviving a close first set against Smith to take the No. 3 match, 7-5, 6-2.  Kwong was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Mai Kobayashi (Fr., Waikoloa, Hawaii) at No. 4.  Motley scored a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Kea at No. 5 and Diehl was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Flores at No. 6.
 
With the loss, Pacific dropped to 6-7, 2-6 NWC.  The Boxers continue a run of five home matches to conclude the regular season on Saturday, hosting Whitworth at 5 p.m.
