Meet ResultsCANTON, N.Y. –
Emily Sproul (Fr., Salem, Ore.) made the most of her experience and put a foundation down for a solid future Saturday, competing in the women's javelin at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, held at St. Lawrence University's Merrick-Pinkard Track & Field Complex.
Â
Sproul finished the competition in 21st place, putting together a throw of 124 feet, 10 inches on her third attempt of the preliminary rounds. She had opened the day with a throw of 121 feet, 8 inches, before posting the three-foot improvement on her final throw.
Â
The freshman would have needed a lifetime to have been one of the nine finalists, with the cutoff coming at 142 feet, 11 inches. It was another Northwest Conference athlete, Kerry Wright of Whitworth, who won the competition with a throw of 155 feet, 4 inches.
Â
Sproul's participation at the national meet caps a season that saw four Pacific athletes vying for potential berths right up until the final days of the regular season. Sproul was the second Pacific athlete to compete at national meet in as many years and is the fourth Pacific women's javelin thrower to compete at the Division III nationals, joining DeeDee Arnall, Brooke Barker and Ann Kaltwasser.
