Box ScoreFOREST GROVE – On a day where Pacific honored their 2015 seniors, it was the seniors who made the difference Sunday as the Boxers closed the season with a 9-4 win over Willamette in baseball action at Chuck Bafaro Stadium.
Â
Colin McCusker (Sr., Olympia, Wash.) pitched six solid innings to earn the win in his final game, allowing one unearned run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.Â
Tyler Kotchik (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) picked up his record 10th save of the year, allowing three runs on six hits over the final three innings.
Â
Austin Gallagher (Sr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) went 2 for 3 with a run and three RBIs before being lifted for a pinch-runner in the fifth inning.Â
Kyle Treadway (Sr., Phoenix, Ore.) went 2 for 3 and scored two runs as the designated hitter while
Donnie Bradley (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) had the single that ignited the Boxers' six-run second inning.Â
Nathan Suyematsu (Jr., Tualatin, Ore.) led the way at the plate, going 3 for 5 with three RBIs.
Â
With the win, Pacific finishes with a 21-19 record and secured their first winning season since 2012. Willamette finished the season at 21-18.
Â
Tiras Koon parlayed an error into Willamette's first run in the top of the second, leading off with a walk and scored when Nate Bush reached on an error. Pacific came right back by putting up six runs in the home half of the frame. Bradley led off with a single, Treadway added a double and Gallagher drove home Bradley with a single up the middle.Â
Mike Thomson (Jr., Yorba Linda, Calif.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases and
Ryan Sohn (Jr., Ventura, Calif.) tapped an infield single to score Treadway and tie the game.
Â
Pacific took advantage of a Willamette error to score the next run as
Ben Duerr (Jr., Lebanon, Ore.) hit into a fielder's choice, but the throw to force out Gallagher at home went wide of the plate. The error also allowed Thomson to score from second base. Two batters later, Suyematsu hit a single to center field, bringing home Sohn and Duerr for the 6-1 lead.
Â
Gallagher proved responsible for a two-out rally in the fifth as his single up the middle scored
Tanner Mansell (Jr., Lakeport, Calif.) and Treadway in what proved to be his last Pacific at bat.
Â
Willamette scored one run in the eighth when Hunter Gallant doubled to left center field and Koon followed with a double down the right field line to make it 8-2. Pacific took the run back in the home half of the frame when Sohn was hit by a pitch and scored on Suyematsu's single to left.
Â
Willamette succeeded in putting together a two-run rally in the ninth. Devin Bales, Jacob Parra and Cameron Igarschi all hit one-out singles and Himuro followed with sacrifice fly that scored Bales. Pinch-hitter Blake Lepire added a single to score Parra before Kotchik coaxed Koon into a fly out to close the game.
Â
Jackson Watt fell to 4-5 on the season with the loss for Willamette, allowing seven runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Gallant and Parra each had two hits to lead the Bearcats offensively.
