SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Two second half goals broke a scoreless halftime tie leading host UC Santa Cruz to a 2-0 win over Pacific in women's soccer at the SlugFest Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Both goals came later in the match for the Banana Slugs, who picked up its first victory of the season (1-3-1) while the Boxers fell to 0-4.
Emily Vancase scored in the 72nd minute and Megan Carey added an insurance counter just a few ticks before the end of the match (89th minute).
Pacific had nine shots in the match (3 on goal) while the Banana Slugs had 16 shots, 11 on goal.
The Boxers had lost their two previous matches in double overtime.
"We took our foot off the pedal after a couple of solid performances," said Boxer head coach
Morgan Joseph. "We will need to learn what we can from today and also put it behind us quickly because we have a quick turnaround with conference play starting on Wednesday."
Pacific will dive into Northwest Conference play this Wednesday, traveling to George Fox for a 7 p.m. match with the Bruins.
