SPOKANE, Wash. - Northwest's Kyle Zimmerman scored twice in the first 18 minutes of the match and that proved to be the difference as the Eagles claimed a 3-1 men's soccer victory over Pacific on Saturday at the Puma Whitworth Classic at the Whitworth Soccer Field.
Zimmerman scored just moments into the match (1:40) and then again at 18:09 to put the Boxers in a hole that they wouldn't be able to climb out of. The victory moved Northwest to 1-3 on the season while Pacific dropped to 1-2.
Trailing 2-0 at the half, the Boxers would get on the board just a little over five minutes later on a
Kellan McNamara goal, coming off a
Elan Yogi pass (50:26).
But the Eagles, an NAIA member of the Cascade Conference, added insurance in the 61st minute via the foot of Chris Iacolucci.
"Northwest is a good club, and we didn't help ourselves falling behind like that so early," said head coach
Eric Mild. "We will head back home, work on some things and get ready for our next opportunity."
That opportunity will come at home a week from today, when Pacific hosts Saint Martin's in a 7 p.m. start at Hanson Stadium.
