CLAREMONT, Calif. - Down two sets to none, the Pacific volleyball team rallied to tie the match but then fell in the fifth and deciding set during a loss to LeTourneau (Tex.) on Saturday morning at the Pacific Coast Classic.
The Boxers then wrapped up tournament play with a defeat at the hands of LaVerne in three sets, 25-21, 25-18, 25-16.
In the 9 a.m. thriller, the Yellowjackets took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-18 and seemingly had the match in hand.
But Pacific rallied with wins in the next two sets by identical 25-17 counts, before giving up the ghost in the rubber match, 15-8.
Marie Rewick paced the Boxers with 16 kills and four aces, while
Hannah Herbert added 13 kills and Mendicino Morgan had 12.
Jamie Steach had 27 assists from her setters position and
Lia Zablan had 19 digs,
Anna VanderWeyst 17.
Against LaVerne, Rewick had 10 kills, Steach had 25 assists and
Karissa Komo added 10 digs.
"I was pleased with our resolve in LeTourneau match and for the whole weekend really," said head coach
Kip Yoshimura. "We played some very good teams and my hope is that we can grow from this."
That next opportunity will come this Wednesday (Sept. 9) at Evergreen State at 7 p.m.
