Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Loggers ambush Boxers, 77-49

TACOMA, Wash. — Host Puget Sound used first half runs of 9-0 and 12-0 to put away visiting Pacific University early on their way to an easy 77-49 victory in men's Northwest Conference basketball action on Friday evening at the Memorial Fieldhouse.

In the match-up between teams that were tied for third place in the conference, the Loggers improved to 8-6 on the season and 3-2 in the NWC. Pacific, who had won five straight games and have now lost three in a row, dropped to 8-6 overall and to 2-3 in league play.

Pacific's K.C. Harrison hit a pair of three-pointers in the first 1:45 of the game to give the Boxers a 6-0 lead, but that would be the highlight of the evening for the visitors. UPS promptly went on that first run (9-0) to take the lead before another Harrison trey tied the game at 9-9 with 13:13 to go in the half.

Soon, a 12-0 Logger blitz gave the home team the lead for good. Puget Sound would continue to roll until the break, taking a 40-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

It wouldn't get better for Pacific in the second half. With 11 minutes to go, the Loggers had increased its lead to 30 points (60-30). They would push the margin to a high of 36 (72-35) with 7:04 left.

Harrison was the only Pacific player in double figures with 11 points. The Boxers shot a cool 34 percent from the field, hit only 4 of 20 three point attempts and 11 of 21 free throw shots. They also turned the ball over 21 times.

Puget Sound was led by Kohl Meyer's 24 points and eight rebounds, while Carlos Mancasola added 19 on five-of-seven range from beyond the three-point arch.

The Boxers will have a short time to lick their wounds, taking on Pacific Lutheran on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
