TACOMA, Wash. — For the first time since 1998 the Pacific men's soccer team earned a season sweep over Pacific Lutheran, as the Boxers edged the Lutes 2-1 on Saturday at East Field.
The Boxers got the scoring started in the 32nd minute, when a pair of freshmen hooked up on the opening goal of the day.
Woodey Greer (Sandy, Utah) scored his second goal of the season off an assist from
Chris Abosamra (San Diego, Calif.).
After holding a 1-0 lead over the opening period, Pacific added an insurance goal in the second period of the match as
Elan Yogi (Mililani, Hawaii) delivered an assist to
Shawn Opfer (Elk Grove, Calif.), who converted for his first career goal. Opfer's goal came in the 55th minute of the match.
Opfer's tally proved to be the game winner after Pacific Lutheran converted a penalty kick in the 90th minute of play.
Opfer led Pacific with two shots on goal in the match, while goalkeeper
Leyton Thommasen (Des Moines, Wash.) recorded five saves between the posts.
Pacific previously topped 2-1 in double overtime at Hanson Stadium on September 18.
