FOREST GROVE — On Senior Day, it was a sophomore who scored the match winner as
Kira Negrete scored a golden goal in the 102nd minute to earn Pacific a 1-0 victory over Whitman at Hanson Stadium.
Pacific out shot Whitman 13-3 on the afternoon, including a 7-1 margin in the first period. Pacific's first shot of the day came in the fifth minute when senior
Holly Chang-Northway (Eugene, Ore.) forced Whitman's Cassidy Brewin into an early save.
Sophomore
Emily Thompson (Orange County, Calif.) was the next Boxer to force Brewin to pounce, when she put her shot on frame in the 18th minute. The final save of the afternoon for either team came in the 24th minute as senior
Kara Lankey's (La Canada, Calif.) look at goal was turned away.
The second period saw Pacific hold off a Blues team pushing toward goal and looking to avoid earning the wooden spoon. Despite pushing for a goal, the Blues managed just two shots in regulation.
The first period of extra time's best scoring chance came in the 94th minute when freshman
Dakota Dantzer (Murrieta, Calif.) missed just above the cross bar on her lone shot on the day. Despite three shots between the two sides in the 10-minute period, neither team was able to find the back of the net.
It did not take long in the second extra time period for the Boxers to net the match winner as Negrete (Lakewood, Calif.) corralled a pass from junior
Maria Frias (Newberg, Ore.), spun and fired a shot by Brewin and inside the near post. Negrete's goal was her second of the season and her first match winner.
Before kickoff, Pacific honored its senior class:
Lucy Almao (Orange County, Calif.),
Breezy Brookbank (Burien, Wash.), Chang-Northway, Lankey,
Raven Paresa-Neizman (Pukalani, Hawaii),
Ashley Park-Hunt (Mililani, Hawaii),

The Boxers finish the 2016 season with a 7-10-3 overall record and a 5-9-2 mark in Northwest Conference action. Pacific finishes the season tied on points with Lewis & Clark for sixth in the NWC table.
