GEORGETOWN, Texas — Host Southwestern took out five games of frustrations on Pacific, pounding the Boxers 19-7 on Saturday afternoon at the Central Texas Tournament.
It was the first win of the year for the Pirates (1-5) after five aggragating losses. Pacific, who defeated No. 11 ranked Rhodes earlier in the day, fell to 4-3 with the loss.
Southwestern scored in every inning except the eighth and pounded out 19 hits in rolling to the win at Rockwell Field. They put up a five-spot in the first inning and then proceeded to hit six different Pacific pitchers during the nearly four hour game.
The Boxers showed what normally would be plenty of offense of their own with seven runs and seven hits. They scored twice in the game's opening half inning after an RBI single by
Kurtis Kloke and a run scoring triple off the bat of
Dylan Wright.
But the highlights would be slim after that. The Pirates built a 12-2 lead through five innings and then added another five runs in the sixth. 12 different players had hits on the day for the home team.
No one had more than one hit for the Boxers.
Walker Olis had a home run, Wright had the triple and
J.T. Francies had a double.
Pacific is 1-2 in the Central Texas Tournament and will now travel to Belton on Sunday for a match-up with Mary Hardin-Baylor. Start time is 11 a.m.
