GEORGETOWN, Texas — Newcomer
Jordyn Godfrey had six goals while
Nicki Leeming added three scores and two assists to help the Pacific women's lacrosse team open the 2016 season with a 16-6 win over Southwestern on Saturday in Georgetown, Texas.
The Boxers begin the year 1-0 and handed Southwestern its first loss of the season at the same time (3-1).
Godfrey, a sophomore transfer from Plymouth State, helped the Boxers blow open the game in the second half. Up by just two points at the break (6-4), Pacific outscored the Pirates 10-2 after intermission. In addition to Leeming's offense, the visitors also got two goals each from
Paisley Hiefield,
Meg Chapman and
April Lanz.
Adrienne Salzwedel had six saves in the net for Pacific. Kate Davis had three goals and an assist to lead the Pirates.
The Boxers will return from the Lone Star state to play their 2016 home opener, hosting Piedmont on Thursday (4 p.m.) at Hanson Stadium. The Boxers will begin defense of their 2015 Northwest Conference trophy on Saturday, taking on Linfield at home at noon.
