HILLSBORO, Ore. —
Paul Wolfram pitched six shutout innings and his teammates bashed out 15 hits on the offensive side to give Pacific an 8-3 baseball win over Puget Sound on Sunday night at Ron Tonkin Field.
The victory at the Oregon Northwest Conference Invitational was the first of the year for the Boxers (1-1), while the Loggers fell to 1-3.
Dylan Wright fell a home run short of the cycle and
Walker Olis had three hits as well to key the 15-hit attack. Wright doubled and scored in the first inning, singled in a run in the second and smashed an RBI-triple in the fourth. On the day, the lead-off batter and designated hitter was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Olis was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two stolen bases.
Nathan Suyematsu added a pair of hits as did
Kurtis Kloke.
Wolfram was the star on defense. He cruised through the first six innings, allowing only four hits and no runs. He ran into trouble in the seventh, giving up three hits and three runs (two earned) before exiting. But
Kyler Knieriem came in to bale him out and combined with
Cody Ahlgrimm to shut down the Loggers the rest of the way without a hit. Knieriem pitched 1.1 innings with a strikeout and Ahlgrimm went 1.1 was well with four K's.
Cal Muramaru had three hits and two RBI to lead the Loggers.
The Boxers will return to Ron Tonkin Field on Monday, taking on George Fox at 3:30 and Lewis & Clark at 6:30 p.m.
