McMINNVILLE, Ore. — Pacific batters pounded out 14 hits and Boxer pitcher
Paul Wolfram fired a five-hit shutout as Pacific rolled to a 16-0 road baseball win to open a three-game series at Linfield.
With the win, the Boxers improved to 12-9 on the season and to 8-5 in the Northwest Conference. The No. 21 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper) nationally ranked Wildcats are now 13-9 and 5-5 with the loss at Roy Helser Field.
Pacific put up crooked numbers in five different innings, including landing a five-spot in the top of the first. The Boxers had only two hits in that inning, but took advantage of a pair of walks and two hit batters to get all the runs that they would need before the Wildcats even came up to bat.
The visitors would add two more runs in the second, and three each in the fifth, seventh and ninth in the run-fest.
Meanwhile, Wolfram cruised in moving to 4-2 on the season. He went the distance, giving up only five hits and two walks. He also fanned five batters. He gave up only one extra base hit on the day, a double to Eric Lawson. It was the first complete game of the season for the sophomore right-hander.
Eight different Boxers had hits in the game, led by
Ben Duerr's 3-for-5 performance.
Walker Olis went 2-for-2 with a home run, scored three times and had two RBI. Other Pacific players with two hits included
Ben Roquet,
Kurtis Kloke, and
Shane Suyama. Kloke had two RBI and Suyama added three. Shortstop
Charlie Dietrich also had three runs batted in.
The Boxers and Wildcats will continue the three-game series in McMinnville with a Saturday doubleheader that will begin at noon.
