Day 1 Results

PORTLAND, Ore. — Senior Mackenzie Huddleston saved her best performance for last, throwing a personal best 140-2 to place second in the javelin final at the Northwest Conference Track and Field Championships on Friday at Griswold Stadium and Eldon Fix Track.

Shannon Hammond took second in the high jump as well to highlight Boxer efforts on a day when there were few final events and mostly preliminary results to report.

Hammond tied for first with a leap of 5-1 1/4, before advancing to a jumpoff with Stacy Kozlowski of George Fox. Five jumpers cleared 5-1 1/4, but Hammond and Kozlowski tied with the fewest misses. Kozlowski won the individual title in a jumpoff.

Huddleston almost brought home a gold as well. Kerry Wright of Whitworth won with a fling of 140-8, just six inches ahead of the Milwaukie, Ore. native. Emily Sproul was fifth overall with a throw of 118-8.

Hammond and Huddleston's efforts on day one both brought the Boxers eight team points.

Katie Rock placed eighth in the hammer throw for the Boxer women with a throw of 133-4 1/4.

George Twigg-Smith took sixth in the men's high jump at 6-2 1/4 in another final, while Logan Naegeli placed eighth in the 10,000 (34:14.50)

A number of Boxers advanced on the track to tomorrow's finals, including Megan Eberhardt (1:00.01) in the 400 meters, Garrett Price (11.15) and Conner Pappas (11.21) in the 100 meters, Kelsey Lee in the 400 hurdles (1:05.21), Jess Knoll in the 800 (2:20.30), Marissa Smith (26.11) and Breezy Brookbank (26.28) in the 200.

A full day of field events begins on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and track finals start at noon.
