Boxers drop two in Texas finale

SHERMAN, Texas – Day three of the Austin College Classic saw freshman Milana Ivkovic record her first ten kill match of her collegiate career, as Pacific dropped a pair of matches before heading back to Oregon.

The Boxers opened the day with a tight 3-2 (26-24, 28-30, 18-25, 25-20, 6-15) loss to Texas-Tyler at Hughey Gym. Ivkovic (Beaverton, Ore.) notched 10 kills in the match, while junior Tiare Kaopua (Nanakuli, Hawaii) rattled off 18 to lead Pacific. Sophomore Morgan Mendicinio finished the day's opener with 14 kills. Senior Jamie Steach (Pasco, Wash.) dished out 49 assists as senior Lia Zablan (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) posted 22 digs on defense.

Junior Karissa Komo (Kailua-Kona, Hawaii) played a critical role in closing out the opening set as she recorded back-to-back service aces to close out a three-point Boxer swing to end the set.

The final set of the match saw the Patriots run out to a 4-0 lead, before closing out the match by winning seven of the final eight points.

The second match of the afternoon saw Pacific drop a three-set decision (20-25, 22-25, 15-25) to Mary Hardin-Baylor inside Sid Rich Gymnasium. Match two included 12 assists from Steach, 12 digs from Zablan and an eight kill performance from sophomore Natalia Burdulis (Maple Valley, Wash.).

Kaopua was named to the Austin College Classic All-Tournament Team.
