The Pacific University women's basketball team wrapped up a seven-game road swing with a 73-58 loss to host Linfield on Tuesday in McMinnville.
Facing a six-point halftime deficit, 27-21, senior
Sarah Curl (Portland, Ore.) scored the first four points of the second half to cut the deficit to two, 27-25 before Linfield came back with a decisive 12-2 run.
Curl finished the game with 26 points for her sixth 20 point game of the season and her 25
th-consecutive games in double figures. Plus, 18 of her 26 came in the final 20 minutes.
Karli McHone (Glenn Ferry, Idaho) and
Jordan Oster (Santa Clarita, Calif.) each scored eight for Pacific in the defeat. The loss drops Pacific to 3-11 overall and 1-4 in the Northwest Conference.
The Wildcats, who pick up their first conference win of the season, improve to 7-7 overall and 1-4 in the Northwest Conference. Linfield was led by Quincey Gibson and Molly Danielson, who had 22 and 20 points, respectively. Danielson also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for a double double effort; plus teammate Audrey McMillan joined her in double figures with 11 points.
The two teams traded baskets to start the game before seven-straight points put Linfield ahead for the remainder of the contest. Twice, in the opening half, Pacific managed to cut the deficit to as little as three. The Boxers'
Nikki Gilbert (East Wenatchee, Wash.) made a few key plans to ended the first and second quarter, respectively. To end the first quarter, she made a jumper to make it a three-point game, 13-10 and she made two free throws just before halftime.
Pacific will play its first home game in 41 days when they host Lewis & Clark on Friday night at 6 p.m.
