Ewell Leads the Boxers to 81-78 Win Over Puget Sound

J.B. Ewell scored nine of the last 12 points en route to a season-high 27 points to lead the Boxers to an 81-78 win over Puget Sound. Ewell added 10 rebounds to his ledger to record his second double double of the season.

The Boxers (9-6, 3-4 NWC) shot a season-high 64.5% (20-for-31) from the field in the final 20 minutes in a game that the score was tied on 13 occasions and lead changed hands on 13 occasions, as well.

Ewell led four Boxers in double figures as junior
Nate Olowo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) had 13 points and seniors
K.C. Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev.) and
Michael Joseph (Anchorage, Alaska) added 11 and 10 points, respectively. It is the fourth time this season that both Ewell and Harrison have been in double figures. Coincidentally, Pacific is 4-0 in those contests.

Puget Sound (10-7, 3-5 NWC) also had four players in double figures. Kyle King led the Loggers with 23 points including three 3-pointers. He was joined by Carlos Mancaslola and Zach Miller, who each had 15; plus Kohl Meyer added 11.

In the tightly contested game, with 3:49 to go, King hit a 3-pointer to put the host Loggers ahead 70-69 with 4:02 to play. The Boxers' called on the Portland native down the stretch. Next, Ewell put Pacific back in front when he made a pair of free throws. Later in the half, the Loggers tied it for the 13
th time with just under a minute to play when Mancasola made a basket.
Again, the Pacific frontline had an answer with Olowo making a pair of free throws and a jumper by Ewell put the visitors ahead for the remainder of the contest. To seal the contest, Pacific made six of its eight free throws in the final five minutes of the contest. The Boxers outscored the Loggers, 32-28 on points in the paint and 19-16 at the free-throw line.

Pacific comes back to Forest Grove for with its first win in Tacoma since Feb. 22, 2014 and will next host Willamette on Saturday at 6 p.m. Prior to the basketball doubleheader, the Boxers will host its annual men's basketball alumni game.
