Pacific Raises its Record to 3-0 with 71-62 Win Over Cal Tech

A 14-0 run midway through the second half sparked the Pacific University men's basketball team to a 71-62 win over host Cal Tech on Tuesday in Pasadena, California.

Pacific (3-0) landed three players in double figures – who all are from the state of California – R.J. Collins (Hollister, Calif.), and Nate Olowo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) each had 15 and Jay Merriweather (Buena Park, Calif.) added 11 points.

Cal Tech (0-2) also had three players in double figures including Bret Johnson, who had 12, Alec Andrews and David Kawashima each had 11 in the loss.

The Boxers found themselves behind by four, 41-37, with 15:30 left to play before scoring 14 unanswered points for its first lead since the opening seconds of the half. In the run, Olowo scored six of his 15 to lead Pacific.

Pacific started the game on a 15-4 run when Collins hit a pair of 3-pointers. The quick start by the Boxers was quickly silenced by the host Beavers, who came back with a 16-3 run to take the lead for the remainder of the first half.

The win raises the all-time mark for Pacific men's basketball against Cal Tech to 6-0. Plus, the Boxers have started the season with a 3-0 mark away from home for the first time with home/away/neutral site records dating back to 1977-78 season.

The Boxers will wrap up its trip to California with a game against LaVerne on Wednesday at 4 p.m., who dropped a 76-67 decision earlier in the day to NWC rival, Linfield.
