Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pacific Loses to Lewis & Clark, 72-59

The tandem of Sarah Curl (Portland, Ore.) and Karli McHone (Glenns Ferry, Idaho) combined for 38 points in a 72-59 loss for the Pacific University women's basketball team to host Lewis & Clark on Saturday in Portland.

The Pioneers (14-8, 7-6 NWC) were led by Ayisat Afolabi, who had a double double with 22 points and 14 rebounds in the win. She was joined in double figures by Janessa Willie, who added 10 points in the win.

The Boxers (7-15, 5-8 NWC) scored the first three points on an unorthodox three-point play by Curl for an early lead before Lewis & Clark came back with the next six points to lead for the rest of the contest. Curl finished the game with 26 points and 10 rebounds for her sixth double double of the season to lead Pacific. McHone added 12 to put the duo in double figures for the 15th time on the season.

Facing a seven-point deficit, 28-21 with 5:29 left in the opening half, the Boxers scored nine of the next 11 points to tie the game at 30 when Charli Elliot (Seattle, Wash.) made one of two free throws. A lay-up by Afolabi with :11 left in the half, put Lewis & Clark ahead by two. A basket by the Boxers' Delaney Emerson (Portland, Ore.) to start the second half tied the game at 32. The Pioneers scored nine of the 12 final points of the third quarter for a 48-39 lead, heading into the final quarter.

The Boxers started the fourth quarter on a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to two, 50-48, when McHone made her fourth 3-pointer of the game with 7:10 left to play. Again, the host Pioneers had an answer to the spurt by Pacific. This time, it was a 13-3 run that pushed the lead to double digits for the remainder of the contest.

Next, Pacific will travel to Salem to face Willamette on Friday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m., who they defeated 60-57 on Jan. 21, 2017.
