Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Pacific Sends Seniors Off with 76-70 Win Over Puget Sound

The Pacific University men's basketball team sent its senior class – Nate Anderson (Tacoma, Wash.), D.J. Christian (East Atlanta, Georgia), K.C. Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev.), Michael Joseph (Anchorage, Alaska) Rafe King (Carson City, Nev.) – off with its third-straight win with a 76-70 win over Puget Sound on Saturday night in Forest Grove.

Anderson, Christian, Harrison, Joseph each got the starting nod from head coach Tim Cleary with King unable to play due to an injury. Much like throughout their career, each had a role in the Boxers' success for their final night in the red and black. The win sees the Boxers end their season with a 12-12 overall mark and a 6-10 mark in the Northwest Conference. For Cleary, it is his third-straight season with 12 wins as the Boxers' head coach and the fifth season in seven years with at least 12 wins.

With the spark from his senior teammates, J.B. Ewell (Portland, Ore.) had 16 points and 12 rebounds for his third double double of the season. Two of the three double doubles for Ewell have come against the Loggers. Harrison and Joseph each made four 3-pointers en route to 16 points. Plus, Pacific junior Nate Olowo had 13 points and six rebounds in the win.

In the win, the Boxers picked up sparks from reserves Christopher Evans (Seaside, Calif.) and Jacob Mast (Hillsboro, Ore.), who played 18 and 17 minutes, respectively. Evans hit a 3-pointer with 5:53 to play that put Pacific ahead 65-62 and later in the half, he had a key rejection. Mast had four points and six rebounds in his most action of his young career.

Puget Sound (12-13, 5-11 NWC) picked up a double double from Kyle King, who had a game-high 20 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Kohl Meyer and Carlos Mancasola had 14 and 13 points, respectively.

A 3-point play by King tied the game at 67 with 2:37 to play but the Boxers answered with six-straight points including four by Ewell and two from freshman Davis Holly (Bend, Ore.) to stretch the lead to 73-67.

Puget Sound missed its last three shots in its comeback attempt and the Boxers sealed the win, making three of its final four free throws.
