SALEM, Ore. — Morgan Bookout was one of nine Boxers to hit over .400 on Saturday, as Pacific knocked off the Bearcats twice on Saturday afternoon at the WU Softball Field.
Pacific earned a 12-5 victory in game one and a 14-6 decision in game two.
GAME ONE: Pacific 12, Willamette 5
Kaitlynn Donaca (Oregon City, Ore.) led Pacific with four hits in game one, while Bookout (Oregon City, Ore.) drove in three of Pacific's 12 runs.
The Boxers exploded out of the gate as Donaca led off the game with a single on the third pitch of the day. A
Haley Kodama (Pearl City, Hawaii) walk put Donaca in scoring position, where she would race home on a single up the middle by
Katelyn Macaitis-Smith (Salem, Ore.). The next three runs came with one swing of the bat as Bookout launched a home run to center and gave Pacific a 4-0 lead.
Pacific's fifth and final run of the opening frame came when
Amanda Machado (Folsom, Calif.) doubled and scored on a single by
Cindy Chan (Torrance, Calif.).
Willamette got on the board in the bottom of the second, but Pacific answered the Bearcats one run with six of its own in the top of the third.
Trisha Snydar (Lynden, Wash.) singled to open the inning and took second on a wild pitch, before scampering to third on a Bookout single. After Bookout stole second, Machado singled to score Snydar and Chan plated Bookout on a single of her own.
Keri Togami (Mililani, Hawaii) singled to center, scoring Machado, before
Kiara McGinnis (Chicago Park, Calif.) delivered a pinch-hit single that scored Chan.
McGinnis took second on a stolen base, only to see Togami race home soon after on a wild pitch. McGinnis also scored on a wild pitch, to give Pacific an 11-1 lead entering the bottom of the third.
Willamette struck for four runs in the fifth, but Pacific wrapped things up with an extra run in the top of the seventh when Kodama tripled to right and scored Donaca.
Donaca was 4-5 with two runs scored in game one, while Bookout finished 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Macaitis-Smith, Bookout, Machado, Chan and Donaca all finished with multiple hit, while Chan joined Bookout with multiple RBI.
Emily Gaines (Littlerock, Calif.) earned her first collegiate win wth 5.1 innings of work and two strikeout.
GAME TWO: Pacific 14, Willamette 6
Madi Hedlund (Kirkland, Wash.) was a perfect 4-4Â in game two, driving in five runs and scoring two in the Boxers' victory.
Neither team was able to push across a run until the fourth, when Pacific struck for three after Bookout opened the inning with a bunt single. After Machado was hit by a pitch, Hedlund singled to score pinch runner
Emily Peters (Forest Grove, Ore.). Pinch runner
Lola Kolehmainen (Fresno, Calif.) scored on a single to left by Chan, while the final run of the inning came when Kodama sent a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Chan to score.
Willamette scored one run in the fourth, but again the Boxers responded with a big inning of their own.
Snydar was hit by a pitch and headed to second on a Bookout single, before both Boxers advanced a base on a wild pitch. A second wild pitch scored Snydar, while Bookout scored on a single by Hedlund. Machado, who had walked prior to Hedlund's single, headed to third as Chan loaded the bases with a single.
A passed ball allowed Machado to score and Pacific again loaded the bases with a bunt single by
Becca Bernard (Roseville, Calif.). Hedlund scored on a wild pitch, for Pacific's fourth run of the inning. The fifth and final Pacific run in the fifth inning came when Macaitis-Smith singled and Chan crossed the plate.
The top of the sixth saw Pacific take an 11-3 lead after Snydar walked and stole second. A Bookout double advanced Snydar to third, where she would score on a Machado sacrifice fly. Hedlund followed Bookout's double with a home run to right field before the Bearcats could score a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning.
The top of the seventh opened with a Snydar single and another Willamette wild pitch, which saw Snydar head to second. Bookout drove in Snydar with a single and headed to third when Machado doubled to center. Bookout would score on a wild pitch, while Machado crossed the plate on a Hedlund sacrifice fly.
Willamette finished the scoring in the bottom of the seventh with a one-run inning.
Kodama, Bookout, Hedlund, Chan and Bernard all picked up two or more hits in game two, with Hedlund's 4-4 outing leading the way. Snydar and Bookout both scored three runs each, in Pacific's victory.
Cassie Apple (Modesto, Calif.) earned her first victory of the season in three innings of relief work on Saturday.
