Boxers Lose Slugfest with Chapman, 13-9

Host Chapman scored five times in the bottom of the eighth to break an 8-8 tie en route to a 13-9 win over the Pacific University baseball team on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Boxers (13-18) had rallied from an 8-5 deficit to score three times in the seventh to tie the game at 8 before the late inning rally by the Panthers. Despite the loss, Pacific senior Kurtis Kloke (San Bernardino, Calif.) went 3-for-3 with three RBI and four runs scored to lead a nine-hit attack. For Kloke, two of his three hits were home runs.
 
The Panthers (19-9) had 14 hits with nine-different players recording a hit including Jared Love, who had a team-high three in the win. Love finished the day 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Another top offensive threat was Justin Stream, who went 2-for-5 with a run scored and four RBis.

Each team used five pitchers in the contest with Cody Ahlgrimm (Colorado Springs, Colo.) for Pacific getting the loss and Austin Merrill for Chapman getting the win.
 
The two teams came out of the game with Pacific scoring three in its half of the first and Chapman answering with five in its half. A two-run home run by Kloke in the second tied the game at five.
 
Three runs on just on one hit in the sixth put Chapman back in front by an 8-5 margin. The Boxers answered in the seventh when Drew Fagerness (Cenralia, Wash.) hit his first career home run – a three-run blast to tie the game at 8.
 
The game was tied at eight in the eighth when Chapman scored five runs on six hits to regain the lead en route to the victory. The Boxers got their final run on the day on the second home run of the day by Kloke in the ninth.
 
Next, Pacific will travel to Spokane, Washington for a three-game series against Whitworth. The action starts on Friday, April 14 at noon with a doubleheader, followed by a single game on Saturday, April 15 at noon.
