The Pacific University baseball team built a 10-0 lead in the first five innings en route to a 12-7 win over host George Fox to end the 2017 season for both teams.
The Boxers (15-23), who started the season with a 15-4 win on Feb. 2 vs. the Bruins, continued its offensive explosion in Newberg and Morse Athletic Field. Pacific had a season-high 17 hits in the win including six with multiple hits.
Seniors
Charlie Dietrich (Aberdeen, Wash.) and
Josh Keithly (Mission Viejo, Calif.) each wrapped up their careers with three hits, plus sophomore
Drew Fagerness (Centralia, Wash.) also had three hits to go along with three RBI. Four Boxers scored twice, including Fagerness,
Eli Wisdom (La Grande, Ore.),
Kurtis Kloke (San Bernardino, Calif.) and
Shane Suyama (Beaverton, Ore.).
All the offensive support gave Pacific starter junior
Brady O'Keefe (Tacoma, Wash.), who pitched 7.1 innings, allowing four hits, three runs (three earned) and struck out four in the win to improve to 3-6.
Cody Ahlgrimm (Colorado Springs, Colo.) pitched the remainder of the game in his final contest, who has decided to forfeit his final year of eligibility to begin physical therapy school.
The host Bruins got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning, scoring twice to end the shutout bid for O'Keefe. Seven-different players recorded a hit for George Fox as also seven-different players had a RBI in the loss.
The game ends the season for the Boxers, who end the season with a 15-23 mark and the final game in the Pacific careers for seniors –
