Boxer Cross Country opens season against Lewis & Clark
The Boxer cross country teams opened their season with a dual meet against Lewis & Clark at Westmoreland Park in Portland on Friday afternoon. The hot weather (90?) kept the runners from performing at their best, but there were several impressive performances on the day.
The women's five-kilometer race went off first at 4:00 pm.Â
Stephenie Spencer (Bothell, Wash.) won the race for the second consecutive year. She led from the gun, stretched her margin of victory to 38 seconds by the end and won in a time of 19:13.Â
Serena Wallace (Centralia, Wash.) moved up from seventh at the mile mark to second at the two mile and finished 34 seconds ahead of third place in 19:51.Â
Jess Knoll (Arlee, Mont.) and
Airel Farley (Glide, Ore.) finished tenth and 11
th overall in 21:21 and 21:57 respectively with
Elsa Douglass (Portland, Ore.) rounding out the scoring in 14
th place in 22:20. Lewis & Clark won the meet by a score of 25-36. Farley had the best performance of the day by far. She improved her time from last year by 2:24.
The men followed at 4:30 with a four-mile race. Â
Nick Slenning (Portland, Ore.) led the Boxers with a time of 22:07. He was close to Lewis & Clark's second group of three, but was unable to split their team and finished seventh overall. The Pioneers ended up winning the meet 15-49.Â
Kyle Eisenbeis (Bothell, Wash.) had a strong second half of the race to be the second Boxer across the line in 23:00.Â
Riley Stewart (Forest Grove, Ore.) [23:24],Â
Logan Naegeli (Trout Lake, Mont.) [24:06] and
Garrett Stewart (Forest Grove, Ore.) [26:14] rounded out the Pacific scoring.
The teams will next compete at the Ash Creek Invitational at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore. The meet is on Friday, September 8 with the first race starting at 5:00 pm.
