Boxers Lose NWC Opener to George Fox, 27-7

Box Score George Fox scored 21 points in the second quarter en route to a 27-7 win over Pacific in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams.

Pacific falls to 0-2 on the season in the loss, whereas the Bruins improve to 3-1.

George Fox outgained Pacific, 289 to 278 in the win. The Boxers' Brandon Boyd was the top ground gainer in the game with 76 yards on 19 carries for the senior from Gilroy, California. For Pacific, Greenough completed 18 of 36 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown. McGee was his top receiver with five catches for 32 yards and a touchdown.

George Fox quarterback Grant Schroeder ran the ball 13 times for 60 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He completed 6 of 16 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Three plays into the second quarter, Schroeder called his own number for an early 7-0 lead. On the next drive, Schroeder connected with for a 43-yard touchdown pass to Brad Lander that stretched the advantage to 14-0.

The Boxers moved down the field, late in the quarter, Alex Beekman attempted a 28-yard field goal that the Bruins' Ryan Russo blocked. The Bruins' Caleb Dalzell scooped up the blocked kick and lateraled to teammate' Charles Riga who ran down the sideline 94 yards for a touchdown for a 21-0 lead.
 
To start the second half, Pacific got on the scoreboard on its first drive when Kevin McGee caught a five-yard touchdown pass from J.T. Greenough to culminate a 73 yard, 11 play drive.

With the momentum from the touchdown, the Pacific defense came away with a takeaway when Ryan Sinkking intercepted a deflected pass. The Boxers marched down to the Bruins' 13-yard line before they attempted a 30-yard field goal. The Bruins' blocked the kick to keep the game 21-7 with 3:06 left in the third quarter.
 
The Bruins' added a touchdown early in the fourth quarter when Schroeder scored his second rushing touchdown of the night.

Next, Pacific will host Pacific Lutheran at 1 p.m. at Ledbetter Field for the homecoming tilt. Prior to the game, Pacific will dedicate Ledbetter Field and at halftime, the Boxers will honor its 2017 Hall of Fame Class.
