Boxers to Kickoff 2017 Season in Iowa

The Pacific University Boxers will open the 2017 season in the Hawkeye State and 1,974 miles away from home as they travel to take on the University of Dubuque. Tonight marks the fourth meeting between the two schools with the host Spartans winning the three previous meetings by a combined 12 points. This is the second trip for the Boxer football program to Dubuque, Iowa.

Since the return of football to the Forest Grove campus, in 2010, the Boxers have won its season-opening tilts in 2013 (at Adrian; 20-10) and 2015 (at College of Idaho; 32-31). The last three season openers have been decided by four points, including a pair of one-point decisions vs. College of Idaho and a two-point decision, last year, vs. Adrian (30-28).

There are 56 players on the 115-person Pacific roster, who will be playing in their first game for Pacific. 51 players stand under six feet tall with senior wide receiver J.B. Ewell standing the tallest at 6-6. 20 players who are in their fourth year of eligibility. Another breakdown of the roster includes 29 student-athletes from Hawai'i.

The Boxers were picked to finish fifth in a preseason poll of Northwest Conference head coaches.
