Whitworth hit .264 en route to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 win over Pacific University to end a four-game winning streak for the Boxers on Saturday in Spokane.

The Pirates (17-6, 7-1 NWC) were a balanced attack in the win including a match-high 14 kills by Jessica Schmautz, who hit .265 in the win.

The Boxers (15-7, 8-4 NWC) managed to hit .170 and record six blocks in the loss.
Jordan Zweifel had a team-high 12 kills, plus
Ellie Parker had 26 assists and three service aces.

The two teams traded the first six points to begin the match until five-straight points by Whitworth ahead for the remainder of the set. The Boxers managed to cut the deficit to one, 12-11 before a 7-1 run would put the home team ahead 19-12. Two of the seven points came on service aces by Saylor Anderson. The second set was also closely contested as the Boxers cut the Pirates lead to one on a pair of occasions. Holding a 14-13 lead, Whitworth scored the next five points to end comeback hopes for the Boxers.

Pacific built a lead as large as four, 18-14, in the third set to prompt a Whitworth timeout. The Pirates answered with five-straight points for a 19-18 lead and its first lead since 9-8. However, the Boxers were able to briefly regain the lead before a service error and back-to-back kills to end the set and the match clinch the match.

Next, Pacific will host Willamette and Linfield, Oct. 26 (7 p.m.) and Oct. 27 (5 p.m.), respectively as part of Alumni Weekend.
