After a tightly contested first half, four second half Whitworth goals would be too much to overcome for the Boxers as they dropped the match 5-2.
Â
Pacific (2-13-1, 2-9-1 NWC) would be inches from scoring just three minutes into the match when
Emily Thompson's shot off of a
Brooklynn Smith corner sailed just wide, it would be the Boxers closest attempt of the half as the defenses tightened up late.
Â
Whitworth (9-4-3, 7-3-2 NWC) would begin pressuring and control much of the pace as they took the next four shot attempts, the first two coming in the 8
th and 10
th minutes. Both the Pirate attempts would miss the frame.
Â
In the 13
th minute Boxer keeper
Saya Brown would make her first save stopping a Whitworth attack. But the Pirates would break through for the only goal of the first half in the 20
th minute after Arielle Van Peursem beat Brown with a quick touch and tapped it in on an open net.
Â
Brown would make three more saves in the half, and the Boxers would not be able to get a shot off after the 25
th minute.
Â
The second half saw an offensive explosion take place, as a combined six goals would be scored between the two teams.
Â
Whitworth would strike first in the 50
th minute when Gabriella Coprivnica would score an unassisted goal.
Â
The Boxers would fight back however as
Gabby Glaser would score her second goal of the season after Smith crossed a ball in and Thompson passed it off in the box, finding Glaser and bringing the score to 2-1 in the 71
st minute.
Â
After Glaser's goal, the Pirates would score the next three opening up a 5-1 lead late in the half. The three goals would all come within five minutes as they were scored in the 76
th, 78
th, and 80
th minutes.
Â
The final goal of the match would come in the 90
th minute, as
Kara Campbell would score her first career goal as Boxer, heading in a cross off the foot of
Elizabeth Blair.
Â
Pacific is back in action on the road next Saturday Oct 27 at Puget Sound. Their next home match is Friday, Nov 2, against Linfield at 4:30 p.m.
