After a tightly contested first half of play, two second half goals by host Willamette against the Pacific women's soccer team would be the difference in a 2-0 loss.
Emily Thompson helped the Boxers (1-11, 1-7 NWC) start off quickly when she put a shot on goal that was saved just 16 seconds into the match. The Boxers would get one more shot on goal in the first half from
Kira Negrete in the 14
th minute.
Defensively, the Boxers would play a clean half with keeper
Saya Brown saving both shot attempts that came her way.
Willamette (10-0-2, 6-0-2 NWC) would break through in the 56
th minute and again in the 61
st minute to go up 2-0. Brown would come up with another save and then the Boxers would control possession taking five shots compared to just two attempts by the Bearcats.
After a couple of blocked attempts from Boxers, Negrete would get two chances at the net. First on coming in the 79
th minute and the second in the 88
th minute, the Willamette keeper would save both shots.
The Boxer women are back in action Saturday, Oct. 13 at noon against George Fox as part of a soccer doubleheader on Ledbetter Field at Hanson Stadium.
