Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Boxers Fight on Senior Day but Drop Match to Willamette 1-0 in Double Overtime

The Pacific women's soccer team would fight for a long 103 minutes for their seniors, but lose a tough match to visiting Willamette 1-0 in double overtime.

The first half would open with the Boxers (2-17-1, 2-13-1 NWC) on the attack early and often unleashing three shots on goal in the first five minutes.

Coming off of a corner from senior Brooklynn Smith, senior Gabby Glaser would have a header attempt stopped by the Bearcats (12-4-4, 8-4-4 NWC) keeper in the 2nd minute.

Senior Kira Negrete would have the next crack at goal, having her 4th minute attempt saved. Senior Emily Thompson would get a shot off toward net saved as well in the 5th minute. Pacific would finish the first half with four shots on goal.

On the defensive side, Willamette would get their chances but with the help of senior defender Mikayla Tucker, the Boxer defense would hold strong. Saya Brown would make four saves in the half, keeping the score going into halftime 0-0.

In half two, it would be a defensive battle early as both teams would only get one shot toward goal, both resulting in saves.

The Boxers would get their best chance of the second half in the 75th minute when Glaser would lay the ball into the box for Thompson. Thompson's shot was saved and held onto by the Bearcats keeper.

Willamette would get a chance to break through late after a foul resulted in a set piece situation. Hannah Deighton would have a header attempt in the 86th minute saved by Brown, her seventh in regulation. Regulation would end with both teams tied at zero, sending the match into overtime.

To start the overtime periods, Willamette would pressure early, sending a shot from ten yards out just over the net in the 91st minute. They would pressure again following a direct free kick in the 98th minute being knocked away by Brown, sending the teams to the second overtime half.

Then, in half two of the overtime, Willamette would finally break through Brown and the Boxer defense. In the 104th minute, Kate Matthews would put in the game-winning goal off of an assist from Jenae Arnold. Brown finished with nine total saves on the match.

This was the final career Boxer soccer match for eight individuals. Along with Tucker, Smith, Thompson, Glaser and Negrete, Adina Goodwin, Holly Bartholomew and Devon Medina would end their Pacific soccer careers today.
