The Boxer defense would show up in full force holding the Warriors to 34.0% shooting and forcing 21 turnovers in a hard-fought 52-51 victory.
Pacific (4-4, 0-2 NWC0 would close the first quarter on a 16-2 run powered by senior guard
Liana Tanaka's 10 points before the defenses of both teams took over.
In a second quarter where a combined 17 points were scored, the Boxers would force eight turnovers and block four Warrior shot attempts.
Courtney Carolan would act as the anchor for the Boxer defense totaling two blocks and three steals.
In the first half the Boxers would use 15 points off of 13 turnovers to take a 30-14 lead into the half.
Coming out of the break, Corban (6-4, 1-0 CCC) would go on a 10-2 run to bring the Boxer lead into single digits. The Warriors would go on to outscore the Boxers 23-12 in the third quarter thanks to 8-12 shooting from the free throw line.
Heading into the final quarter, the Boxers held a five-point lead. Corban would tie the game at 45 with 5:54 left, but would never be able to retake the lead from the Boxers.Â
After two made Carolan free throws and an
Ashley Jones jumper Pacific would go up by five points once again with just over 2 minutes remaining.
The Warriors would tie the game at 51 after Jordan Woodvine converted a layup with 36 seconds remaining.
In the final seconds,
Charli Elliott would be fouled by Corban sending her to the free-throw line with 5 seconds left on the clock. After missing the first, Elliott would make the second giving the Boxers a one point lead.
Corban would inbound from their side of the court following a timeout and drive into the lane where Carolan was waiting. Carolan would draw a charge that negated the made go-ahead shot by Corban's Woodvine, sealing the Boxers victory.
Carolan would finish with 13 points, six rebounds, five steals, three assists and three blocks. Tanaka would lead the Boxers with 14 points and Jones would add 13 of her own.
Pacific would finish going 12-14 from the free throw line.
The Boxers are back in action Dec 17 against Luther College in the UC-Santa Cruz classic in Santa Cruz, Calif.
