The Pacific University softball team extended its winning streak to six games, defeating Thomas More, 4-3 and Fontbonne, 15-6 in a pair of games in Friday's action at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Ariz.
The Boxers (6-0, 2-0 NWC) rallied from behind in both of its wins. Pacific scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to overcome a 2-1 deficit against the Saints of Thomas More in game one. Against Fontbonne, in the nightcap, the Boxers came back from a 6-1 deficit in the third inning to score the next 15 runs to complete the come-from-behind victory.
In the first game of the day, against Thomas More, a RBI double by

In the second game of the day, the Boxers recorded one of the most epic wins in the program history. The refuse to lose attitude of the Boxers was evident as they pounded out a season-high 13 hits and 15 runs, capitalizing on five doubles, five stolen bases and six walks.
Katelyn Macatis-Smith (Salem, Ore.) led the hit parade with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI, plus teammates
Nicole Martinez (Yorba Linda, Calif.) and
Trisha Snydar (Lynden, Wash.) each had two hits in the win. The top three in the Pacific order – Martinez,
Jill Uyeda (Greshahm, Ore.) and Macatis-Smith – combined to go 6-for-12 with six runs scored and four RBI in the win.
Just as impressive as the offensive numbers was the effort of the Pacific bullpen. Senior relievers
Alyssa Burns (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) and
Erin Shick (San Diego, Calif.) came out of the bullpen to pitch the final five innings, allowing just two hits and striking out eight.
Trailing 6-1 in the top of the 3
rd, Pacific scored three times to cut the deficit to 6-4. After a strikeout by Burns to end the bottom of the third, the Boxers offense picked up where it left off in the fourth. In the inning, Pacific scored seven runs on four hits and capitalized on two errors. Some of the big hits in the inning were a two-RBI single by
Kaitlynn Donaca (Oregon City, Ore.) and a RBI single by Kodama, plus two runs came in as a result of an error as Pacific sent 10 batters to the plate. The last time that Pacific scored seven runs in an inning was on April 17, 2016 in a 13-5 win over Willamette.
