The Pacific University softball team came into the Northwest Conference Tournament unfazed by its No. 4 seed and its opening round opponent, No. 14 George Fox.
The Boxers (22-15) pounded out 14 hits including eight extra-base hits en route that led to a 10-2 win over the Bruins, who gave up double-digit runs for the first time on the season. Five players for Pacific had multiple hits including
Hailey Miller and
Trisha Snydar, who each had three to lead the Boxers.
The Bruins (33-8) were held in check by Pacific starter
Erin Shick, who threw just 81 pitches, giving up just five hits and striking out three to raise her record to 6-0 on the season.
Pacific started its scoring when Miller and Snydar hit back-to-back home runs to begin the second inning. The Bruins tied it at 2 on three hits in its half of the inning.
After a scoreless third, Pacific regained the lead in the fourth. The Boxers scored four runs on five hits in the inning. Miller led off the inning with her second home run of the game. After back to back singles, the Boxers stretched its lead to 4-2 when
Kaitlynn Donaca hit a double in the gap in left center to prompt a GFU pitching change. Then, after a strike out,
Haley Kodama hit a two out, two RBI double that put Pacific ahead 6-2. Pacific scored four more times in the sixth inning – two of which came in on a two-RBI single by Katelynn Macatis-Smith and a two-RBI double by Snydar.
