The Pacific University softball team dropped a twinbill to host No. 22 Linfield on Sunday, losing 7-2 and 7-1 in McMinnville at Del Smith Stadium.
The Boxers (17-13, 11-11 NWC) had six hits in game one and four in the nightcap. Three-different Boxers – Katelyn Macatis-Smith and
Montana Vaught in game one and
Trisha Snydar in game two – each had two hits to lead the Pacific offense.
The Wildcats (26-7, 18-3 NWC) had nine hits in game one and 14 in the nightcap.
In game one, Linfield built a 5-0 lead until the Boxers got on the scoreboard when
Haley Kodama hit a solo home run for her second home run of the season. Later in the inning, Snydar reached on an error by the Wildcats with two out. Then, Vaught doubled to score Snydar from first to cut the deficit to 5-2. The Wildcats scored two more in its half of the inning en route to the win.
Cheyenne Fletcher and Jessica Woodruff each had two hits in the game one win for Linfield.
In game two, the Boxers got their lone run in the seventh inning. Linfield managed to score in four of the six innings including a three-run fifth and a two-run sixth.
Snydar had two of the Boxers' four hits in the loss for her seventh multi-hit game of the season. She led off the seventh inning with a double to left filed. Then, the Boxers managed to load the bases later in the inning. With two out, a Wildcats' wild pitch plated the run for the Boxers.
In the loss, Pacific stranded six base runners, including a pair in the fourth inning. For Linfield, in the win, five-different players had multiple hits including Jacinda Swiger, who had a team-high three.
The two teams will wrap up the series on Monday night with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. at Del Smith Stadium.
